As Net-A-Porter's latest article on pinky rings "Why You Need A Pinky Ring" highlights, this storied piece of jewelry has come a long way since its original design.

 

Early on, pinky rings, a.k.a. signet rings, were used to sign letters by pressing the metal band, featuring the family's coat of arms, into hot wax. Since, they've been an indicator of marriage throughout Victorian times, same-sex preferences throughout the '50s, and identifiers of one's astrological profile throughout India. Today, however, pinky rings are a canvas for playfulness and individuality.
